As of version 2.2.0 the JoomBeat module is completely adapted and working with the new Beatport API and authentication system.
Beatport turned off their previous API, rendering the JoomBeat module useless. I've been working hard the last couple of evenings to get it all up and running again.
With the API change Beatport implemented an authentication system for use of there service. Now you can authenticate your module but you will need to get an API key, an API secret, a token and a token secret. If you don't know how to obtain this information, check the documentation for more info.
Because the new Beatport API does not provide enough information based on genre this feature is removed from the module. Hopefully this is just a temporary measure. Sorry for the inconvenience if you were using the module this way.
If you provided the authentication information the module should work as before. I have spend a lot of time testing the module but in case you should find a bug please take a little time to notify me in the support forums. Also any other feedback is welcome there.
Because of a change in the Beatport API the module stopped working 28th of August. I am working on an update to fix it.
Some features requested on the support forum are added to the module. With version 2.1.0 you can select Beatport information based on chart, single release or single track ID's.
All (minor) issues generating PHP notices are solved, HTML output is optimized and some recently discovered bugs are fixed.
A bug accured after an API change at Beatport. This bug generated an error in the "Featured" Releases" block if the module was set to show releases by Genre.
To fix this bug the module got updated to version 2.0.2
After an understandable complaint by Beatport I moved this little project again. Don't worry, moving it around isn't the only thing I do. I am working on a new view type for the module so an upgrade is coming up.
I have received a mail from a lawyer working for Beatport saying it is illegal to use the name "jBeatport". The lawyer assured me that there is no problem what so ever with the module or the plugin. Beatport appreciates the work and support however the use of their brand-name (even as a part of a name) is forbidden by law.
It is not my goal to do illegal stuff or get into a fight with Beatport so I agreed to change the name "jBeatport" to a name that is acceptable for Beatport.
This means that the name and domain for this website will have to change. I'm checking the new name will not create a similar problem so I'm keeping it secret for now.
If - in a couple of days - you can not find this website on jbeatport.com go to Joomla's Extensions Directory, find the only Beatport related module. The "Website" link there will be the first to be updated.
A new version of the JoomBeat module is available. A lot of configuration and styling options are added. Apart from being able to show artist and label info it can now also provide release info based on genre. The new version is also tested and working on Joomla 2.5.
